The World’s Big Sleep Out!

December 7th, 2019

It’s getting cold out. While some of us have the pleasure of enjoying the changing of the seasons, others are forced to sleep outside. In the United States alone, over 552,000 people were counted as being homeless on a single night according to HUD.

KESTY is proud to announce that in solidarity with 50 other cities around the world, we will be joining the World’s Biggest Sleep Out to raise funds and awareness for the global homelessness refugee crisis. Nathan Rhein, our SAVP, has taken the reins on organizing a Big Sleep Out for the whole community. Thank you to CSAC, the Global Mitzvah Committee, the Rabbi’s Fund, and Stepping Stones Shelter for your partnership.

From Saturday December 7th to Sunday December 8th, all Temple Emanuel community members and friends are invited to the Big Sleep Out to raise funds and awareness about global homelessness and displacement. Our Big Sleep Out is one of hundreds around the world. From 6PM to 10PM, we’ll have programs about homelessness for all ages from ECC to adults, including a community dinner over a bonfire. At 10PM, we’ll read a bedtime story and transition to sleeping in at Temple. We’ll have sleeping options for teens, young families, and individuals.

Our KESTY board is looking to raise $300 for the Big Sleep Out. 100% of funds raised will go to charity. Half of the money will go to Stepping Stones Shelter in Rockville, Maryland. The other half will go to UNICEF.

You can donate to KESTY’s BSO team at and sign up to attend the event at
