A program of the Religious Action Center (RAC)

LtakenTemple Emanuel’s Confirmation Class of 2012

Are you ready to change the world? This two-day program offered by the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism gives 9th-12th graders the opportunity to impact our country’s political process by sharing their views with decision-makers on Capitol Hill. We begin on Sunday, March 2nd by engaging on such topics as Israel, the environment, gun control, reproductive rights, LGBTQ civil rights, church/state separation, international relations and more. The next day, we travel downtown to deliver our message to representatives in government! All the while, we have the chance to meet and mingle with Reform Jews from across the DC Metro Area. This is the only program of its kind and one of the greatest learning opportunities for teens to engage in the U.S. political process. Please note that the program requires students to miss school on Monday, March 3. Click here for a school absence letter.

Sunday’s program will begin at 9:30am with check-in at Washington Hebrew congregation at 3935 Macomb Street in Washington, DC and run throughout the day until students have finished preparing their speeches for Monday (usually around 7:00pm). On Monday, dress is business casual, and teens will meet at Union Station in Washington, DC by 9:00am. Transportation will be coordinated by Debra Winter and may involve an option for teens to meet at Grosvenor Metro Station by 8:30 to travel together to Union Station. Teens will have lunch in the cafeteria of one of the House buildings, and Monday’s meetings should conclude by around 2:00pm.

Our Temple Emanuel Confirmation Class will be making a concerted effort to participate in this program as one community, as it offers many valuable experiences for students at this critical educational juncture in their lives. The full program cost is only $36 and includes all meals except for lunch on Monday, which students will purchase themselves in the cafeteria. Checks can be made out to Temple Emanuel, or we can bill your family account. If you need financial assistance or have any questions, please contact Debra Winter by email or at the Temple Office at 301-942-2000.

Please use the below form to register no later than Thursday, February 27th! We will also need a completed Health and Safety Form on or before the program start date for those participating.
